Taking your breath away
One thing's for sure, you'll never be bored on the Borders. There are breathtaking attractions hidden away throughout the area. The fun is in finding them.

Froncysyllte Aqueduct

Take for instance the canals – more than one celebrity has enjoyed the tranquillity of a narrow boat holiday recently but what makes our canal countryside different? Have you heard of the stream in the sky?

No? Well be prepared to gasp as you travel across Thomas Telfords’ aqueduct at Chirk and if you think that is high wait until you peer over the side of the aqueduct at Froncysyllte (at 126ft – that is scary!).

You don’t, of course, have to be in a narrowboat to enjoy these amazing sights – but walking across may not be a good idea if you are afraid of heights! . Catching your breath again, don’t leave without a visit to The Ceiriog Valley which shimmers with beauty from Chirk to the Berwyn Mountains.

Llanrhaead Waterfall

Delve deeper into the Welsh Borderlands and you will find another of our enticing valleys. The Tanat Valley with its charming villages and river is picture postcard perfect.

What a surprise when you go past Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and stumble upon the incredible waterfall. This is one of the seven wonders of Wales, higher than Niagara Falls and surely one place to visit when those summer showers have been at their heaviest!

Still on the water theme, a little further on is Lake Vyrnwy, the largest man made reservoir in Wales. Explore the sculpture trail or take part in the many activities based on and around the lake.
