Some people like their activities to be decidedly sedate, perhaps by simply admiring the hard work of others. Our whole area has an abundance of gardens to visit. Some are gems which bedeck the smallest cottages, whilst those which surround our splendid National Trust castles are on a much grander scale. Visit one of our Tourist Information Centres and our friendly staff will advise.
If walking is your thing then why not tackle part of the Offa’s Dyke national path, a border in its own right, or, for the really serious hiker, meet the challenge of the entire route from North Wales to Chepstow. Extremes are plentiful: from gentle canal tow-path strolls to more arduous mountainous treks; from undulating hills and dales to cliff-top heights. Pick up a map, pull on your boots and enjoy our most precious gift - freedom!
Or you can combine a walk with a hobby. Try the challenge of our friendly golf courses. Where else can you tee off in Wales and putt out in England? Bring your paint brushes or your camera, and so take your memories with you. You could try a little fishing, or cycling, horse riding, or maybe sailing or canoeing. Need excitement? Play on the edge with some kayaking; cling to the edge with some rock climbing. Do you want something really different? How about paint-balling, or all-action combat warfare, hot-air ballooning, quad-biking, or go-karting? How unique is taking a hawk for a walk?
For children and all the family we have a premier all-weather attraction at Park Hall, the former army camp. Between Park Hall Countryside Experience and The Venue, there is a diverse range of interactive events and activities. Have a go at hand-milking and animal petting at Park Hall Countryside Experience where you can also meet the Shire horses or groom a pony. Children can get behind the wheel at the Kids’ Driving School, or tackle an off-road course in a 4x4. Also under cover, a play barn, a Victorian schoolroom, Welsh Guards Museum and a classic motorcycle collection. The Venue offers an exciting blend of entertainment such as ten pin bowling, bar and eatery, gym and health spa, beauty salon, soft play area and Gamezone.
