Oswestry - Life on the Edge

Listen, do you want to know a secret ....?

The Cross
The Cross - Oswestry

.... It’s the surprise of discovery when you arrive at this corner of Shropshire. Swap busy highways for peaceful byways, the centre of which is the vibrant market town of Oswestry. Our unique border location, lying at the foot of the Berwyn Mountains and the plains of North Shropshire, offers a huge variety of attractions, activities and experiences.

The lively market town of Oswestry sits between the patchwork plains of Shropshire and the hill country that is Wales, making it an ideal centre for a visit to this beautiful part of Britain.

Stroll through our busy town and experience an exciting cultural mix, part English, part Welsh, yet always friendly, and especially bustling on market day. Forget the usual line-up of shops you find in other towns. Here, independent traders still thrive, and where old-fashioned service still counts.

And trade has been the focus of our growth. Explore and you will discover our history: from the Iron Age, through medieval and Tudor times, to the onset of the railways and Victorian splendour. And amidst this heritage we continue to grow. Call in at our historic Visitor and Exhibition Centre by St. Oswald’s Church, or Mile End Visitor Information Centre situated on the outskirts of town, and our friendly staff will tell you all about Oswestry and the Borderlands. Or, if you really want to learn about our history, myths and legends, then why not join in a guided tour of the town with our Town Guides, fascinating all year, and frankly frightening on the ghost and ghoulish tours in the autumn.

And there is so much more!

Live life on the edge .....
Oswestry ..... where Shropshire meets Wales.
