The SWEET PEA SHOW is held in WEM each year in July, to celebrate the close association the town has with sweet peas, which all started over 100 years ago. The link dates back in fact to 1888 when the world famous hybridist HENRY ECKFORD moved to Wem to continue his work with Sweet Peas and to start what was to become a seeds business famous throughout the world. A special feature of the show, is the section for Old Fashioned Sweet Peas, most of them raised in Victorian Times by Henry Eckford V.M.H., with seeds available by post or from the society.
